Itzél Ríos-Ellis

YAC has given me a place to practice my art while being mentored by amazing artists, leaders, and friends. I've met so many people who have inspired me, motivated me, and who have encouraged me to become a better artist. My artwork is a blend of my emotional, creative, and cultural experiences. As a white-passing Mexican American who feels as though they saddle two countries and two identities, my art has become a sanctuary for what I’ve had difficulty expressing through words. I like to base my artwork on the foundation of the emotions that come from fighting a constant identity battle within myself. I have YAC and my family there to thank for providing me with the best opportunities to learn more about myself and my creative process.
